Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar: When space champagne wins an iF Design Award

In the world of design, some distinctions carry particular weight. The project Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar, developed by Maison Mumm to enable champagne tasting in microgravity, has been honoured with the iF Design Award, one of the most internationally recognised distinctions in design and innovation.

The award recognises a pioneering project that reimagines the champagne tasting experience in an environment where the physical rules we know on Earth no longer apply.

The iF Design Award: a global benchmark in design
Each year, it recognises projects from across the globe for excellence in design, innovation and user experience. Products, architecture, technologies and forward-thinking concepts are evaluated among thousands of international submissions.
Receiving this award means a project stands out not only for its aesthetics, but also for its ability to provide a meaningful response to a technical or cultural challenge.

Rethinking champagne tasting in zero gravity
But in space, the rules change. In microgravity, bubbles no longer rise naturally and liquids behave very differently. Even the simple act of pouring a glass becomes a challenge.
To address this constraint, Maison Mumm developed Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar, a project at the intersection of design, engineering and Champagne expertise.

    A design created for microgravity
These bubbles can then be captured using a specially designed glass created for the space experience.
In doing so, the system recreates what lies at the heart of champagne culture: the gesture of tasting and the shared moment of celebration. A moment designed to transcend gravity while preserving the spirit of champagne.

Bridging heritage and space exploration

This is precisely the vision that resonated with the iF Design Award jury.

By rethinking both the object and its use, the Stellar project connects two seemingly distant worlds:
the centuries-old heritage of Champagne and the future of human space exploration.

More than a bottle, Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar can be seen as a cultural object looking toward the future – a way of carrying a fragment of Earth and its rituals beyond our planet.

Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar wins the iF Design Award

Maison Mumm’s space champagne concept is recognised for its innovative design enabling champagne tasting in microgravity.

The project Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar, developed by Maison Mumm to enable champagne tasting in microgravity, has received the iF Design Award. The project reimagines the champagne tasting experience in space, where bubbles and liquids behave differently than on Earth. Designed in collaboration with experts in aerospace environments, the system allows champagne to form floating bubbles that can be captured using a specially designed glass, preserving the ritual of champagne tasting even in microgravity.
