MUMM CORDON ROUGE STELLAR
A true beacon of elegance and technological achievement, this champagne represents the utmost fusion of refined craftsmanship and aerospace collaboration.
A journey that started on Earth and heads to orbit
First initiated in 2017, the project now meets both space and AOC Champagne standards, setting the stage for future Axiom Space missions. Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar will not only test the ritual of champagne in the unique conditions of space but also contribute to writing Earth’s culture into the new era of human exploration.
On March 2025, a decisive milestone was reached: the final test flight aboard a parabolic mission from Bordeaux-Mérignac.
The objective? To conduct the last weightless tasting of this extraordinary cuvée in near-space conditions.
The result? A confirmation, not just of technical readiness, but of the integrity, flavor, and symbolic richness that Mumm aims to bring into orbit.
Bringing this vision to life has required an elite taskforce of minds from multiple disciplines. Mumm partnered with:
- Octave de Gaulle, founder of SPADE, a space design agency specialized in crafting products for extraterrestrial environments,
- The CNES (French National Centre for Space Studies),
- Jean-François Clervoy, European Space Agency astronaut and veteran of three NASA space missions.
Together, they defined not just the form, but the function of a champagne experience in space, a journey that culminated in two major prototypes, rigorous technical vetting, and the integration of advanced materials.

Since 2022 years, we’ve conducted countless tests and numerous technical adjustments to make this champagne space-ready. The test of last March 2025, was the final checkpoint before the ultimate mission.

100% MADE IN FRANCE: INTRICATE MANUFACTURING AND CUTTING-EDGE DESIGN
A bottle crafted for the cosmos
In order to meet the dual space-AOC Champagne specifications, Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar had to navigate a complex set of limitations (e.g. gaseous liquid in the absence of gravity, pressure contained in the bottle, food compatibility, material specifications, size, ergonomics and ease of use). All technical matters, design-related were addressed by Octave de Gaulle with the active support of CNES and the Comat design office.
Creating champagne for zero-gravity is more than a packaging challenge, it’s about reinventing the entire tasting experience itself. The result is a glass half-bottle, encased in stainless-steel opening device, inspired by Mumm own’s blending vats in Reims. Every component was meticulously designed to preserve the wine while adhering to aerospoace safety standards.
This new ritual preserves not only taste, but the very essence of it – the act of pouring, sharing, and savoring , even where gravity no longer dictates the rules.
We have retained the freshness and power of Mumm Cordon Rouge while enhancing the intensity of its flavors.
Yann Munier, Mumm Cellar Master
This was achieved through an extended aging process, along with the addition of a dosage liqueur crafted from wines matured in oak barrels, which further elevates its complexity and depth.

about the
cuvée
A blend of Mumm Cordon Rouge adapted to tasting in space
The conditions of tasting champagne in space differ on the physiological level with an alteration of the sense of smell.
Taking into account these parameters, Laurent Fresnet has selected a blend of Mumm Cordon Rouge made with grapes from the 2016 harvest, which includes a majority of Pinot Noir – the House’s signature grape variety – and is supplemented with reserve wines from the past five years.
The champagne has developed notes of ripe yellow fruit and vine peach, but also dried fruit, hazelnut and praline. Aged in oak barrels, the dosage liqueur, elaborated from wines, brings a touch of vanilla and pastry notes.
