DONA BERTARELLI

IN ONE WORD, HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?

Rewarding.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE A ‘DARE TO WIN’ ATTITUDE?

Have a dream, work hard to make it happen and be proud of your achievement whatever the outcome is.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU HAVE TAKEN TO FINISH A RACE?

Some last-minute tactical choices can seem desperate but can pay off. But the biggest risk one can take in extreme weather conditions is to push the machine and the crew to the limit. This has been our case for this year's victory at the Bol d'Or Mirabaud.

WHAT MOTTO DO YOU CARRY WITH YOU TO MOTIVATE YOU AT ANY TIME?

A race is never finished until you have crossed the finish line. Anything can happen to you but also to the others. Trust the work done by the technical team who prepared the boat. Trust your teammates and above all, concentrate till the end on the job to be done.

WHAT DOES THE THRILL OF VICTORY MEAN TO YOU?

The final achievement of an entire team to be shared with all involved. A recognition of a job well done.

OF ALL THE FIRSTS YOU HAVE CELEBRATED IN YOUR CAREER, WHICH ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?

All victories are special and different in many ways. My two victories at the Bol d'Or Mirabaud have a different taste of achievement to the record of the America Discovery Route, my first in offshore sailing.

WHEN YOU HEAR THE WORD ‘CHAMPAGNE’, WHAT COMES TO MIND?

Joy, happiness and celebration.

FOR WHAT OCCASION DO YOU DRINK CHAMPAGNE?

A special occasion to be shared with people I love and care for.

DO YOU HAVE A LUCKY CHARM OR A RITUAL FOR EVERY RACE THAT YOU RUN?

Not for every race but every new boat I launch, my mother needs to be there and bless the boat.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE THAT YOU'LL FACE DURING THE ROUTE DU RHUM 2014?

To support Yann from the team base and make sure that everything is running smoothly for him.
