Aside from being a highly successful entrepreneur and extreme adventurer, Cordon Rouge Club member Neil Laughton is the founder of the unusual bicycle organisation The Penny Farthing Polo Club. These retro bikes may originate from the Victorian era, but the former England bicycle polo captain has given Penny Farthings a new lease of life in what he describes to be ‘the poor man’s polo’. Difficult to mount, steer and control, these bikes have neither gears nor breaks adding an element of danger to this fun and exciting sport! Neil Laughton and his fellow members have raised a huge amount for charity in their 4 a side matches with numerous events happening throughout the year.
On Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August, Neil and his team of Penny Farthing Polo members will be taking part in the bicycle festival ‘Pennies in the Park’. A social gathering of Penny Farthings and old Morris motors participating in fast and slow paced races throughout the weekend. This will be taking place at Thoresby Park with camping on Thoresby Lawns.
