Vintage Champagnes

Although expertise plays an essential role in the creation of a great champagne, nature can also contribute to the skilled work of the winemaker, oenologist and Cellar Master… All these combined factors lead to the creation of outstanding cuvées, vintage champagnes that have a long-lasting and memorable impact on the history of the House.

MUMM, OUTSTANDING BY NATURE

Spanning more than 30,000 hectares, the Champagne wine-growing region benefits from a very specific climate, experiencing significant frost during the winter season and excellent sun exposure in the summer. These conditions preserve the finesse of the grapes, which reach optimum ripeness. This also helps sculpt the personality of Mumm wines and determines their complexity. The nature of the terroir, the diversity of its soils and the specificities of its climate, combined with the House’s expertise, thus create unique wines full of character every year.

Carefully stored in the Mumm cellars, they offer an extraordinary palette of flavors and aromas that reflect the richness of a terroir. To craft the final blend, the Cellar Master draws on this library of distinctive wines to produce champagnes that showcase the House’s excellence and unique style.

When all of these conditions are found in an exceptional harvest, the Cellar Master can decide to only select wines from a single year to create the blend. They are aged in cellars for at least three years in order to fully develop their bouquet of aromas. These remarkable wines, known as “Millésimés”—or vintage champagnes—become chapters in the history of the House.

VINTAGE MUMM, THE SYMBOL OF A LIFESTYLE

These legendary cuvées are a testament to their era and a reflection of their terroir. With its lively and intense flavors, Mumm Millésimé 2012 is therefore reminiscent of the year’s capricious weather, which was characterized by strong spring frosts and abundant rainfall, fresh and humid flowering in June, and a particularly warm end to the summer. Together, these phenomena led to a limited but outstanding harvest. The result is an intense, superbly balanced wine that combines the white and citrus fruit aromas of Pinot Noir with the round and voluptuous body of Côte des Blancs Chardonnay.

The fruit of a year with stable weather, despite the particularly rainy summer, the 2008 Vintage reveals aromas of yellow fruit combined with rich notes of sweet pastry that follow through to the palate, before making way for beautiful minerality.

Of the crus to have marked recent decades, the 1995, 2006 and 2009 vintage champagnes are timeless cuvées and some of the most sought-after among connoisseurs.

Full of character and emotion, Mumm’s vintage champagnes deserve to be matched with food that is on a par with their outstanding quality. The 2008 Vintage pairs beautifully with sweet and savory flavors, such as fried foie gras and apricot jelly, or game served with caramelized quince, whereas the 2012 Vintage is best brought out by fish and shellfish or a tangy and fruity dessert that will emphasize its freshness and minerality.
