ROMAIN GROSJEAN

HOW DIFFERENT WAS THE EXPERIENCE TO THAT OF YOUR DAY JOB?

My job is incredibly intense and highly charged. No other race series on earth demands so much of its drivers in terms of stamina and endurance. So the day spent with David was quite a contrast and extremely enjoyable. It's so refreshing to be doing something new. For me, my day living like a rock star was about having fun, enjoying the moment of celebration and being open to new opportunities. It is not every day you get to hang with the greatest DJ in the world – so you may as well put aside any doubts and fears and simply enjoy it.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOMENT IN YOUR CAREER THAT CHANGED YOUR LIFE FOREVER?

My life completely changed in 2009. During that year, I was enjoying a strong second season challenging rival Nico Hulkenberg for the title in the GP2, when I received the F1 call-up in August. From that moment on, my life just completely changed. People were all of a sudden interested in me and it felt like all my hard work had been recognised. It is such a great feeling to know you have succeeded and I really felt it from that moment.

DESCRIBE YOUR ATTITUDE ON THE RACE TRACK.

I don't really look at the other drivers and see what they are doing and think that's what I should be doing. You always have to believe you are the best, no matter what happens. When you get in the car, you can’t think about family and things. You must be focused. As a sportsman, you have to be selfish and think only about what you are doing. Certainly, when I go back home, I am very pleased and my priorities are very different but on the track I have to remain focused. I don't aspire to be like other drivers – I aspire to be unique in my own way.

YOU ARE THE FIRST FORMULA ONE DRIVER TO BE APPOINTED AS AN AMBASSADOR FOR G.H. MUMM, HOW DOES THAT FEEL?

I have one of the best jobs in the world known for being the ultimate test of technical skill and determination as well as having the most iconic celebratory moment when you succeed. My work with the iconic House of Champagne, G.H.MUMM, means that I am forever focused on winning to get to that celebratory moment. It is a great honour and privilege. As any Formula One fan will know, G.H.MUMM has played a huge part in the sport over the last 14 years, so it is a personal achievement to be able to represent them on and off the track.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ARE THE VALUES YOU SHARE WITH G.H.MUMM?

The similarities in our values are simple – we both have a passion for victory and a drive to be the very best in the field. I have seen firsthand their commitment to innovation, their pioneering spirit, bravery and the quest for the highest possible perfection, these are just some of the many things we share.  You can’t be the best if you aren’t willing to be brave and take risks – this is what I do in every race and G.H.MUMM understand this. We understand each other and equally respect our ambition.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE WORKING WITH G.H.MUMM AND DAVID GUETTA ON THE CREATION OF THE MUSIC VIDEO?

That was a day I will never forget and in all honestly, I could not turn down a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This was a great moment in my life. I mean I got to live like a true rock star for one day! I knew from the moment David and I were introduced, we would have fun in creating something special despite having completely different day jobs, we really connected. Sadly, David got to win the race in the music video but we all know what would happen in real life!
