Three weeks ago, Cordon Rouge Club Member and multi-record breaking sailor Brian Thompson not only won the Multihull at RORC 600 Caribbean but also broke his very own world record in the process.
The race, said to contain the highest calibre of international sailors, is in its eighth year and sees competitors race 600 miles around 11 Caribbean islands, starting and ending in Antigua. Brian’s triumph as part of the MOD70 Phaedo3 team, marks yet another accomplishment to Brian’s impressive collection of 32 world records.
Phaedo3, co skippered by Brian and skippered by owner Lloyd Thornburg, completed the race in less than 32 hours, obliterating last years’ time by precisely 1 hour, 34 minutes and 26 seconds. This admirable result should in no way underestimate the performance of other competitors. Concise 10, skippered by Ned Collier Wood, was hot on the heels of Phaedo3 throughout the race. Indeed, at speeds in excess of 30 knots the two vessels were barely a boat space apart – with Concise 10 finishing a mere 9 minutes behind. Brian praised Concise 10 as a tight rival, noting prior to the race that, “I think having Concise to race against will improve our performance.”
