Histoire de Mumm

G.H. Mumm adopted marketing well before the discipline gained wider acceptance. Launched with a ribbon of real red satin around every bottle, Cordon Rouge is without doubt Champagne's oldest commercial brand still in use today.
Sponsorship was also pioneered, with the renowned explorer Commander Charcot using Cordon Rouge to launch his boat, "The Frenchman". The commander and his crew used Cordon Rouge in 1904 to mark 14th July on the Antarctic ice floes.
By the start of the 20th century, G.H. Mumm was sponsoring air shows in the Champagne region. Walther de Mumm took part in the air races as co-pilot to the famous French aviator Blιriot in two monoplanes.
